It is presented by the Ekphrastic Poetry Trust of Connecticut in coordination with the Guilford Art Leagues 76th annual exhibition and sale held at the Guilford Arts Center. Eligibility
Open to all Connecticut poets ages 18 and older.
All work must be original, not created under tutelage, and not previously printed, published, or displayed at the Arts Center or any other gallery.
Note: Works deemed inappropriate for any reason by Ed Lent will not be accepted and his decisions are final.
Entry Requirements
All poems must be in ekphrastic style, contained to one standard page. Do not include blank pages. Please submit poetry in PDF format ONLY.
Please name the file using the following syntax:

Please don’t wait! as soon as your poem is done please submit and Venmo or mail check so it can be registered and entered.

poets to read at the opening will be requested later that afternoon. All poems from each poet must be submitted together all in one submission or at same time, one after the other.
Awards
Grand Prize: An original work of art by EALENT valued at $800
First Prize: $100
Second Prize: $50
Third Prize: $25
Honorable Mention
Note: I will invite selected poets to read at the event later that friday. The winners (who may or may not be among the readers) will be announced at the event. If a winner is not present, the next runner-up will receive half of that prize. In other words, if the first prize winner is not present, they will get 50.00 instead of 100.00 and the second prize winner will get 100.00 instead of 50.00! if second prize winner is not present they get 25.00 but 3rd prize winner gets 50.00 instead of 25.00. If 3rd prize winner not present the award will get split between winner and honorable mention.
The grand prize winner must be present to claim their award; otherwise, it will be forfeited, not awarded and cannot be shipped, mailed, or delivered.
ENTRY:
Poets and all entrants: $10 for up to four poems (- you could submit 1 poem but why would anyone NOT submit 4 poems which increases their chances of winning a prize with an award winning poem??
Note: Unpaid submissions will be excluded from the exhibition and unqualified for awards.

Accepted poems remain intellectual property of the poet. They are not published or property of GAL or EPT of CT and will not be used in any form without written permission from the poet after this exhibit. They will only be printed to be exhibited with this show exclusively until Sunday September 29 when the show has ended. The Guilford Art league, the Guilford Arts Center, the Ekphrastic Poetry Trust or any members or exhibition staff has any ownership or responsibility for the poems afterward.
Additional Details
The Guilford art league was founded in 1947 by a small group of local artists. The objective of the art league is to promote and stimulate interest in the visual arts. Members and associates of the Guilford art league are participating and interactive group of artists who learn and benefit from the Association and one another.
The Ekphrastic Poetry Trust of Connecticut was established by poet Edward Lent in the spring of 2024. Ed is a member of the Connecticut poetry Society, the Academy of American poets, Poetry Society of America, the Haiku Society of America, has published two books on poetry and was awarded the Connecticut Arts Hero Award in 2020 from the Connecticut Office of the Arts.
Ed teaches ekphrastic poetry at the Madison library and has been a host of many poetry workshops and seminars. Both an active artist and poet he is a member of the Guilford Art League and Madison Art Society.
