Getting Ready

Labor Day weekend came and went. Our collective consciousness is feeling cool nights and as much as we may or may not accept it, YES…, the leaves ARE turning. I’m at an all time busy schedule but getting ready is an event that I think we have to live with everyday. This weekend is the drop off of two pieces im submitting. I knew this in July when I painted like a crazy person and then worked on framing in August so that by last week they were tagged, wrapped and ready. Looks easy, right? yup, that 20 minute drop off took 2.5 months, countless hours, effort and of course costs. It’s like paying for a ticket to a show that’s hundreds of dollars, do we think the band just showed up and played for us that night? Of course not, but sometimes, I think with some art viewers that you sit down and it just comes out between breakfast and lunch and that’s a day. the next big thing is THE ART OF POETRY : The Poetry of Art show that i’m doing in coordination with the Guilford Art League’s 75Th annual juried show at the Guilford Art Center.

I’ve already reached out to about 75 poets on my Ekphrastic Poetry Trust master list. Some plan to meet there on the Monday Sept 9 to choose works and write. Friday Sept 13, all entries are due to me by 12 noon.

I will print, read, deliberate, judge the poems in 4 hours so that I can announce at the Opening Artist Reception on the 13th which art was chosen and invite those artists to attend the Opening Poets Reception on the 15th!

On the 14th Ill be posting the poems and finalize the top winners, awards and prizes- as well as picking up everything from wine to snacks to the serving items to be set up earlier that afternoon..Looks easy right?

This is what Getting Ready is all about… and its going to be great!
